As featured on A Current Affair 28th January 2010 the popular green bags that are sold at major retailers and most other department stores and are so called Environmental / Eco/ Green bags (LDPE bags) are in fact produced from polypropylene, derived from a petroleum material which comprises large molecular weight polymers, coloured in heavy metals and chemicals which are extremely harmful to the environment and the bags will not break down for some 1000 years. They are then sold to the public as the answer to the plastic bag issue which is a misnomer.
